Like with many movies, there are just some songs from video games that hit differently. This time around, I will be talking about songs that will forever be randomly sung out loud when they pop up in my head or give me the musical goosebumps. Here we go:

Journey
This game I played in one sitting. I played the entire thing while thoroughly immersing myself in the music. The soundtrack is just amazing, and I always went back to it when I had to study or when I wanted some nice, relaxing music in the background. These are four songs that I picked from the entire soundtrack:

Bastion
Now, to be fair, I didn’t actually play this game. But! I was next to Michael on the couch as he played. I would be either crocheting or playing something on the side (like Minecraft) and would now and then hum along with the songs. The songs range from intense battle vibes, to down right pulling at your heartstrings. Here are the songs I chose:
- Slinger’s Song
- Build that wall (Zia’s theme)
- Mother I’m here

Transistor
This is another visually gorgeous video game that I watched Michael play. The songs are from the same composer as in the game Bastion. The mysticism and wonder that these songs bring, are ideal to transport you into the world of the singer Red. The story in the game is quite interesting and the soundtrack is a must have. The three chosen songs:

Fallout 4
Now this is a game that I played and was just happily jamming as I traveled the radroach-infested world. This apocalyptic world, where people learn the hard way that only the strong survive, has a memorable soundtrack. Not only because their soundtrack was great, but because they had radio stations within the game! Oh, how I long to walk (incredibly slow, because I’m far beyond my weight-carrying capacity), while singing “I don’t want to set the world on fire” in a new Fallout game. But for now, I can replay some of these songs on Spotify and Youtube:

Persona 3
Persona 3 is a game I have mixed feelings about—love for its music, frustration at the missing female protagonist in Reload. But one thing’s for sure: the soundtrack is phenomenal. It hypes you up for battle, softens the emotional moments, and makes you feel the weight of the story. From this amazing game, here are the top 3.5:
- Burn my dread (Intro to the game)
- Joy (used to be my ringtone)
- Polonian Mall
- Poem for Everyone’s Souls (velvet room opera song is the 0.5, because it appears in the next game too!)

Persona 5
This is another game that I watched Michael play, but jammed alongside him. I love the jazzy/lounge vibes they brought to the game and their soundtrack. It has a completely different vibe to the other Persona games. This is great, because each game has its own personality. Which is why it doesn’t really surprise me that their Persona Dancing games did so well with their remixed songs. The chosen ones from the soundtrack are:
These are just a handful of soundtracks that live rent-free in my head—but I know there are so many more. What about you? Which game song gives you chills every time, or still randomly pops into your head years later? Drop your favorites in the comments—I’d love to build a playlist together!
